Every hotel has a story
From a very early age I knew working in Luxury Hospitality would be the perfect job. I was fascinated going to restaurants and watching the ballet of the waiters around the room and I had the same fascination for the luxury hotel lobbies where you can meet everyone.
My first real job was working on the Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express on the inauguration trip on the 25th May 1982 and this was the real beginning of my passion for the industry. James Sherwood CEO of Sea Containers had made his dream come true by re-creating this train and the inauguration voyage was one of those adventures that you would never forget. I started working at the age of 21 abd was promoted a few months later to Train Manager of this mythical train. It was the beginning of a fabulous story for Orient-Express and the development of the group named now Belmond.
Then, after two years, I moved to Bora Bora in the French Polynesia to assist Monty Brown in running a hotel which unfortunately does not exist anymore, and returned to Paris as Hotel Manager of Le Bristol for four years with the legendary hotelier Raymond Marcellin.
My first GM position came at the age of 29 when I joined the One&Only Saint Geran in Mauritius to work for Sol Kerzner for quite a number of years running resorts in Mauritius, South Africa, Bahamas, and the Maldives.
